MONCHIQUE
This village is located in a forest area in the Monchique range of mountains. It´s main sources of income are derived from agriculture, coal production, wooden works and crafts. We would recommend a tour of the village and a trip to Foia (the highest point in the Algarve with 902 metres) which has various view points. Try the local gastronomy and in particular the Parma Ham, the smoked Sausages, the Honey, the traditional Almond Cakes and the Medronho (a kind of firewater).
The Monchique Spa is not far from the village. These thermal springs, which flow at a temperature of 32ºC, are used to treat rheumatism and also respiratory and digestive disorders. You will also find the famous local crafts such as Wooden Chairs, Baskets and Wickerwork items, Cork Handicrafts and Embroidery works.
