ALJEZUR
The borough of Aljezur is located on the western coast of the Algarve and spreads over an area of 32 065 hectares. The area itself has countless historical traces from the last part of the Neolithic / Calcolithic period in the form of polished stones, as well as very old pieces, which claim to be from the Glacier period (7 000 BC).
Located right in the heart of this coastal area, Alejezur is rich in fish (Sea Bream, John Dory and Sea Bass), seafood (Sea-urchins, Limpets, Mussels and Barnacles), game (Rabbit and Wild Pig) and farmers´ produce (mainly Sweet Potatoes and Beans).
The most traditional desserts are Pastries and Sweet Potato Cakes. Honey is also a very sought after product, as well as the homemade wine and the Medronho (a kind of firewater).

The ruins of Aljezur – Castle which date from the 10th century and have a View Point.

Igreja Nova (New Church) – located in Aljezur, from the 18th century and built in decadent Baroque style.

Igreja da Misericordia (Misericórdia Church) – from the 16th century, located in Aljezur.

Gruta Amarela (Yellow Cave) – North East of Aljezur.

Gruta do Monte Clérigo (Monte Clérigo Cave) – near Monte Clérigo beach.

Forte da Arrifana (Arrifana Fortress) – ruins located on the Arrifana beach, dated from the 12th century.

The house of the Arab Prince Abu Caci.
